Background:

The Project consists of the design, construction, finance, operation, and maintenance of the Félix Bulnes Hospital. The scope also includes the provision, maintenance and replacement of medical equipment, information technology systems and furniture. Operations include both basic services (e.g., hard/soft facilities maintenance, food services, laundry) and special obligatory services (e.g. acquisition and replacement of medical equipment, basic IT services), but exclude any medical and/or clinical-related services. This 123,000m2 project has a capacity of 523 beds and includes 16 surgical halls. It is located in one of the most densely populated and poorest municipalities of Santiago(1).
The contracting authority is the Ministry of Public Works (“MOP”), and payments are made by the Ministry of Health (“MINSAL”). Commercial close occurred in June 2014, shortly after the publication date of the Project’s official award. The construction started in 2015. The Project opened in April 2020.
In February 2017, Meridiam entered into a share purchase agreement, to purchase 49% percent of the shares of the Project Company, Sociedad Concesionaria Metropolitana de Salud, S.A.

The hospital benefits from broad support in the local community as it is seen as transformational for this very poor area of Santiago. As part of its engagement with the local community, the hospital staff implemented a program to provide support to local women in abusive environments. The Project Company has achieved 3 ISO certifications: (i) Environmental Management System Certificate (14001:2015), (ii) Occupational Health & Safety Management System Certificate (45001:2018), and (iii) Quality Management System Certificate (9001:2015). The Project Company is currently implementing reinforced procedures to enforce its ethics policies across its supply chain
and service providers.

SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth)

The Project Company has promoted and implemented the use of hospital’s premises by an association of women having suffered gender-based violence as a place to install a stall to sell handmade accessories*
